Synchrotron Radiation Spectroscopy on Strongly Correlated Electron Systems

چکیده
Solids with strong electron–electron interaction, namely strongly correlated electron systems (SCES), have various physical properties, such as non-BCS superconducting, colossal magneto-resistance, heavy fermion and so on, which cannot be predicted by first-principle band structure calculation. Due to the physical properties, the materials are the candidates of the next generation functional materials. We investigate the mechanism of the physical properties as well as the electronic structure of SCES, especially rare-earth compounds, organic superconductors and transition-metal compounds, by infrared/THz spectroscopy and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy based on synchrotron radiation. Since experimental techniques using synchrotron radiation are evolved rapidly, the develop ment of the synchrotron radiation instruments is also one of our research subjects.

An energy-dispersive X-ray absorption spectroscopy beamline mainly dedicated to X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and material science under extreme conditions has been implemented in a bending-magnet port at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory. Here the beamline technical characteristics are described, including the most important aspects of the mechanics, optical elements and de...
متن کاملIn situ electrochemical synchrotron radiation for Li-ion batteries.
Observing the electronic structure, compositional change and morphological evolution of the surface and interface of a battery during operation provides essential information for developing new electrode materials for Li-ion batteries (LIBs); this is because such observations demonstrate the fundamental reactions occurring inside the electrode materials. Moreover, obtaining detailed data on che...
متن کاملPolarized hard X-ray photoemission system with micro-positioning technique for probing ground-state symmetry of strongly correlated materials
An angle-resolved linearly polarized hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (HAXPES) system has been developed to study the ground-state symmetry of strongly correlated materials. The linear polarization of the incoming X-ray beam is switched by a transmission-type phase retarder composed of two diamond (100) crystals. The best value of the degree of linear polarization was found to be -0.96, co...
